PlayStation app's voyage to Europe delayed a week
The PS4 companion app, while initially due today in Europe, has been pushed back to November 29 - the day of the PS4 launch. Sony needed the extra time to make "some final tweaks to ensure the experience is butter-smooth for you ahead of the PS4 launch next Friday," the company announced on the PlayStation Blog.The free app, compatible with both iOS and Android devices, integrates with the PS4 by allowing users to browse their friends lists, Trophies, the PSN store and unlock certain second-screen experiences - like extra in-game content or alternative control options. The app went live in the US two days prior to the PS4.

The Hunger Games: Catching Fire - Panem Run by Reliance Games lets you play as characters from the Hunger Games trilogy as you sprint across Panem, inspiring the various Districts.
The Hunger Games is a series ripe for endless runners, it seems - before the first film was released in March 2012, Canabalt creator Adam Saltsman created The Hunger Games: Girl on Fire, a 2D endless runner with art from Super Crate Box's Paul Veer and music by Super Meat Boy's Daniel Baranowsky. It was much cuter than the film or book which, if you haven't seen or read yet, you should probably do. They're kind of a thing.

Atari strategy classic M.U.L.E. coming to iOS next week
It's been three decades since M.U.L.E. was first released on the Atari 800, but we've got no time for wistful memories as the classic strategy game is slated to return on iOS in mere days, appropriately as M.U.L.E. Returns.For those to whom the acronym means nothing, M.U.L.E. is something of a cross between Settlers of Catan and Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri. The goal of M.U.L.E. is to thrive among the stars as a colonist on the planet Irata (that's "Atari" spelled backwards). Other colonists will be competing with you for resources, though they just as often can become valuable trading partners. At launch (and even today) M.U.L.E. was revered for its easy to learn, but difficult to master mechanics and near-infinite replayability - no mean feat for an Atari game released in 1983.
M.U.L.E. Returns makes its iOS debut on November 25. An Android version of M.U.L.E. Returns is scheduled to appear at some point in 2014. M.U.L.E. Returns is said to feature new, HD graphics, online leaderboards, and a faithful reproduction of the rules of the Atari original.

GameStop sales up 18.8 percent, owing primarily to GTA, Nintendo handhelds
The third quarter of the financial year was a profitable one for GameStop, with sales jumping 18.8% to $2.11 billion and net earnings increasing by 45.3% over the prior year.Key to this growth was the release of Grand Theft Auto 5, a game we awarded 4.5/5 stars. According to GameStop's latest financial report, new software sales increased by 43.1% during the quarter. Hardware sales are likewise up, with the Nintendo 3DS and 2DS handhelds cited as the impetus for a 15.3% gain over last year.
The one dark spot in GameSpot's financial report is a quick note that pre-owned game sales fell by 2%. This however is handily offset by the gains of GameStop's mobile and digital sales, which are up 14.4% and 8.6%, respectively.
Riding these gains into the next-generation of gaming consoles, GameStop is confident in its position. "Our strong third quarter sales results give us great momentum as we enter the new console cycle," stated CEO Paul Raines. "Consumer appetite for the new consoles is very strong judging by last week's successful PS4 launch and the excitement for tonight's Xbox One launch event. Globally, we are executing our unique playbook to maximize our position of strength."

The Room 2 puzzles players on iPad in December, Android in 2014
Indie developer Fireproof Games plots a December release for its iPad puzzler The Room 2, with iPhone and Android launches scheduled for next year.Released last September, The Room is a tactile puzzle game in which players examine 3D objects affixed with complex locking mechanisms. Success hinges on the player's ability to observe weaknesses in these security systems, which grow trickier as new puzzle layers are uncovered.
The Room 2 will hit the iTunes App Store on December 12 for $4.99.

Report: Apple in talks to purchase co-creators of original Kinect tech
Apple is currently in talks to purchase PrimeSense, the original suppliers of Microsoft's Kinect motion-sensing technology, according to All Things D. The acquisition was first reported by Isreali publication Calcalist, which indicated that the purchase will amount to $345 million.Founded in 2005, PrimeSense contributed its 3D sensing technology to the Xbox 360 version of Kinect. Microsoft since went with in-house developers for the latest iteration of the Kinect for Xbox One, the company's latest console set to launch this Friday. Apple may be allegedly targeting PrimeSense for the company's Capri technology, a newer form of its 3D sensing tech used in mobile devices such as Google and Samsung's Nexus 10 tablets.

Limited edition white Ouya doubles down on storage
Ouya is offering a limited edition console for the holidays in North America. The white Ouya changes up the program by offering double (16GB) the internal storage space for $130, which is $30 more than the standard Ouya console.The console is up for pre-order through Ouya right now. All orders received prior to December 8 will guarantee the console arrives "in time for gifting."
A new update, planned for later this month, will unlock external USB storage on all Ouya consoles. This new update also presents many changes to the UI and how games are listed in the "Discover" area. The next iteration of the Ouya hardware is planned for 2014.

Farming Simulator makes hay on PS3/360 today, FS14 out now on mobile
Giants Software's down-home blend of wheat-harvesting, livestock-breeding action makes its PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 debut with today's digital and retail release of Farming Simulator. This week also marks the release of the latest series entry, Farming Simulator 14, for iOS and Android devices.
Farming Simulator has remained a staple on PC platforms since 2009, though the series didn't make the jump to consoles until recently. Giants Software tested the waters with a PlayStation Vita digital release in July, and the Xbox 360 version saw an early launch in Europe and Australia earlier this year.
Despite its niche appeal, the Farming Simulator series is supported by a dedicated community on PC platforms, with many users taking advantage of its modding capabilities to add new vehicles and other in-game elements over the last several years. Giants Software revealed that it will release many of Farming Simulator's most popular user-made creations as downloadable content on consoles.
The Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 versions of Farming Simulator launch today at $29.99. Trophy hunters take note: you can earn an easy gold trophy by starting up your tractor, cracking open a beer, and honking 100 times.

Walmart celebrates Black Friday a week early, extends Christmas price match
All Walmart wants for Christmas is cold, hard cash, so the company is dropping tradition and offering the deals in its recent Black Friday ad to customers as early as 8AM on November 22.Notable deals found in the ad include a 4GB Xbox 360 console for $100, a PlayStation 3 with The Last of Us and Batman: Arkham Origins for $250 and a $100 2DS handheld. Many games are also discounted, including recent hits like Assassin's Creed 4, Battlefield 4 and Beyond: Two Souls.
Why release an ad specifically created for a singled day of the year before that day has ever rolled around? Simply put, Wal Mart is employing an especially aggressive sales strategy to combat the relatively short amount of time it has to entice holiday shoppers. "Black Friday is our Super Bowl and we plan to win," stated the company's chief merchandising officer, Duncan Mac Naughton. "With six fewer days from Thanksgiving to Christmas, the retail environment is more competitive than ever. Every opportunity to get a great deal - whether this weekend, on Thanksgiving Day or Black Friday weekend - matters for our customers."
Additionally, Wal Mart has revealed plans to extend its annual Christmas price matching promotion. Now, every item you purchase between November 1 and December 24 is eligible for a refund, assuming you find it included in any other stores' ads at a price cheaper than what Wal Mart's offering.
Keep in mind however, that this deal does not apply to items purchased on Black Friday or Thanksgiving Day. This promotion also ignores items you've seen on Amazon or any other non-local retailer, removing the possibility of playing retailers off one another for massive savings.
Update: An earlier version of this article mentioned a 250GB Xbox 360 on sale at $100. Walmart's sale is actually on a 4GB Xbox 360. We apologize for the confusion.

1979 Revolution shakes down to PC, Mac and Android
1979 Revolution, Ink Stories' 3D adventure game that places players in the midst of the tense Iranian protests of that year, will come to PC, Mac and Android. This is in addition to the game's initial platform of choice, iOS, which is being developed in Unity, making the transition to the other platforms easier for the developer.The episodic indie game is currently seeking $395,000 by December 16 on Kickstarter to launch its first episode, Black Friday. Those looking to back the project and obtain a PC or Mac version of 1979 Revolution will need to invest at least $20, whereas the iOS and Android reward tiers are listed at $15. Ink Stories' campaign is currently sitting at $56,163 in funding.

Grand Theft Auto 5's iFruit app arrives on Windows Phone
Grand Theft Auto 5's iFruit companion app is now available for Windows Phone devices, completing Rockstar's citrusey journey across the smartphone trifecta.The iFruit app allows players to customize in-game vehicles, and features a series of Tamagotchi-like minigames starring Franklin's Rottweiler partner-in-crime, Chop. The app originally hit iOS devices in September, followed by an Android release last month.

Amazon 'AppStream' service allows devs to stream games from the cloud
Amazon announced the upcoming introduction of AppStream, a service that delivers high-performance games and other applications via Amazon Web Services cloud streaming.Essentially offering developers the ability to "build complex applications that run from simple devices," AppStream aids in reproducing high-performance, GPU-powered rendering on platforms normally incapable of delivering such performance. Supported applications launch instantly, and can be controlled either with touchscreen input or with linked devices.
Microsoft's Xbox One has a similar supplemental cloud service in the works to boost in-game performance, and Amazon's AppStream could potentially help power graphically rich games for mobile and desktop devices. Developers interested in testing out a limited preview version of Amazon AppStream can apply for admission here.

Vlambeer's amphibious hunting game, Ridiculous Fishing, is on its way to Android after eight months on iOS, the studio announced today. An Android port of Ridiculous Fishing has been on the table basically since the game launched, but the task was daunting, studio co-founder Rami Ismail said in March. However, Vlambeer couldn't ignore the fans for long."We've always thought of Android with a bit of reluctance, and we still think it's an awfully rough platform to develop for," Ismail tells Joystiq. "In many ways, the development of Ridiculous Fishing was a struggle for us, and to be honest we weren't sure about launching it or not until a week ago. There just were so many requests for the game on Android from our fans, so we couldn't withhold them the game if there was any way to make the game happen. We found a porting partner in Apportable, and they're the ones that really made the game happen on Android."
Ridiculous Fishing caused a few waves with its price point, charging $3 rather than the App Store's norm of free-to-play. It worked out: The game sold 300,000 units at $3 by August, and it ended up with an Apple Design Award (plus we liked it a ton). Ridiculous Fishing will cost the same on Android, but it's going to launch with a "sale of sorts," since the Android market appears to behave differently at launch than the App Store, Ismail says.
"We're really curious to see what'll happen after the launch - in many ways, we feel that how Ridiculous Fishing performs financially on Android will be an interesting comparison to the iOS ecosystem," he says. "For now, we're adding final tweaks and fixes to make sure that we can launch really, really soon. We really hope Android gamers will be happy with the effort we put into making this happen - this one is for them."

Dragon's Dogma Quest jumps to Japanese Vitas next month
Following its iOS debut earlier this year, Capcom has revealed that Dragon's Dogma Quest will finally be available to Japanese Vita owners on December 19.Though the free-to-play spin-off was initially revealed for the Vita, that version has been a long time coming. We first reported on the free to play roleplaying game in June, at which time it was scheduled for a Fall release. For unknown reasons, Capcom decided to launch the previously unrevealed iOS iteration of the game first, during this past summer. Until now we had no word on the status of the Japanese Vita version.
Fans of the original Dragon's Dogma will find a very different experience in Dragon's Dogma Quest. Instead of an open, 3D world, the free-to-play Quest is a 2D, online-only, traditional roleplaying game that asks players to command squads of eight Pawns. According to Siliconera, these Pawns can have up to 150 different character classes, and the strategic part of combat in Quest hinges on finding the best combination of classes to beat any given challenge.
There is still no word on when or if Dragon's Dogma Quest will be released outside of Japan.

PSA: King of Fighters '97 sneaks onto iOS
If you're too impatient to see how Legend of Raven turns out under the guide of former King of Fighters developers, King of Fighters '97 can help you relive an iteration of SNK's fighter on iOS devices.The pre-existing four button layout is still an option, but a new six button sprawl provides an alternative control scheme. The game's listing mentions an "SP button," meant to make pulling off special moves a bit more feasible without the tactile feedback a real fight stick would provide. The port also unlocks characters from the get-go that were originally hidden away in the Neo Geo version.
Considering its 35-character roster and support for Bluetooth multiplayer, $3.99 isn't a bad asking price. Much more affordable than other recent options for replaying Neo Geo classics have been, at least.

Pier Solar HD to launch by March 2014, coming to PS3, PS4
Pier Solar HD, the Kickstarted remake of the Sega Genesis RPG Pier Solar, will be coming to the PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4, Watermelon Games President Tulio Goncalves announced in a Kickstarter update. This is in addition to the previously planned PC, Xbox 360, Wii U, Mac, Android, Linux, Ouya and Dreamcast versions. The initial release of Pier Solar HD has also been delayed and is now planned to launch by March 2014.In the initial update, Goncalves explained that repeated applications for the consideration of Pier Solar HD on the Xbox 360's Marketplace were not met with a response. After hearing about Microsoft's self-publishing program for the Xbox One, ID@Xbox, Goncalves applied for the program several times.
Although the video update states Microsoft had not responded beyond a request for more information about the project, Watermelon Games has since commented on the post to confirm that Microsoft has contacted them. While it's not an outright confirmation that Pier Solar HD will reach either the Xbox 360 or Xbox One, the comment states that it "looks like good news will be coming along!"

PSA: Battlefield 4 Commander app now free on iTunes
Controlling the flow of combat in Battlefield 4 just became a bit more convenient thanks to the launch of the iOS Tablet Commander app.While the app won't be of much help in a straight up firefight, it does allow players to take control of the game's Commander mode from the comfort of the nearest iPad. Using touchscreen controls, the app allows would-be generals to scout the entire map at once, direct teammates on where to go, and call in airstrikes, either from Cruise missiles or nearby attack helicopters.
Since the app fundamentally changes the way Battlefield 4 is played, virtual commanders will not find themselves ranked as usual at the end of a match. Instead, they'll be competing directly with the other team's commander. If there is no commander on the other team, just pat yourself on the back every time you ruin someone's day with a few hundred pounds of precision-guided explosives.
The Battlefield 4 Tablet Commander app can now be downloaded for free from the iTunes App Store. Developer DICE claims that an Android version of the app will be available soon.

1979 Revolution tells the true story of Iran protests
Indie developer Ink Stories recently launched a Kickstarter project for its iOS adventure game 1979 Revolution. The game takes place during the riots and protests in Iran in that year of history, which Creator Navid Khonsari lived through personally before his family moved to North America in 1980. Khonsari first told Joystiq about his vision for 1979: The Game in February 2011, though it's not clear whether Ink Stories has overhauled the previous open world-style game or if 1979 Revolution is a new adventure entirely.
1979 Revolution is an episodic, 3D adventure game that has players avoiding authorities and making consequential decisions during the tense historical period. As Khonsari describes in the crowdfunding pitch video, the game features triage and photography mini-games, the latter granting players access to real-life photographs of the Iranian revolution. The Kickstarter project is seeking $395,000 by December 16 to launch the first episode, titled Black Friday, in spring 2014. With enough support, Ink Stories hopes to bring the game to Android, PC, Mac, Linux and other consoles.

Harebrained Schemes has announced plans to sell all future copies of Shadowrun Returns (as well as its upcoming expansions) sans pesky digital rights management schemes."Thanks to a new agreement we were able to negotiate with our partners at Microsoft, Harebrained Schemes is pleased to announce that we are now able to release fully DRM-free versions of Shadowrun Returns and future expansions such as Berlin," reads a message on the Shadowrun Returns Kickstarter page.
Other than the removal of DRM, Harebrained Schemes assures fans that these new copies of Shadowrun Returns will receive the same level of developer support as any other version of the game. "You'll be able to download all game patches, use the Shadowrun Returns editor and experience user-generated content downloaded from third-party sites such as Nexus," the message states.
Those few who ignored our glowing 4/5 star review and still haven't played Shadowrun Returns may have another chance to pick up the game when it makes its Good Old Games debut. Harebrained Schemes is currently working toward this goal, though there is as yet no word on when or if the game might hit GOG.

Ouya user interface getting facelift this month
Ouya will receive an update sometime in the next few weeks that will improve the system's user interface, Engadget reported. Upon installing the update, the Android-based micro-console's UI will more prominently feature cover art for games in sections like the "Discover" page.Additionally, double-tapping on games will pull up a new menu that offers game recommendations and allows users to purchase and "like" games.
The update will also add support for external USB storage and the ability to add games to your Ouya queue via the console's web store. This month's system update will automatically add BombSquad and Amazing Frog: The Hopping Dead to players' download queues as well, though they'll need to purchase either game to play them to completion.

As for Euro twiddlers, unless they have an Android device they may have to wait until nearer November 29, when the console launches on that side of the ocean.North Americans still have to wait until Friday to check out of the app's PS4-based features, such as providing a screen-based keyboard for the console, or a second SmartGlass-like screen for certain PS4 games. In the meantime, there's always things like text chat with PSN friends, trophy comparisons, profile viewing, game alerts, and PS Store browsing to keep you occupied. When the console does arrive on November 15, PS4 owners will be able to use the app to download purchased content directly to their new black box.
Also, one very useful thing the app links to is the console's web-based user manual. As it happens, we can do that too.

Hearthstone: Heroes of Warcraft is stocking up on card protectors in preparation for taking its deck on the go for ports to iOS and Android devices, Massively reports. A North American open beta for the initially planned PC and Mac versions is also scheduled for next month, but as Blizzard CEO Rob Pardo jokingly reminded us, "in Blizzard-speak, that might be January."Those interested in the game's beta can sign up for consideration right now.
